Our speaker this year was Ewart Brown, founder and director of The Quiet Place Ministries. Ewart wears a lot of hats — motivational speaker, family facilitator, retired minister, hospital chaplain, psychiatric therapist — and it showed. He knows how to talk about relationships in a way that's both practical and personal, whether you're thinking about home, church, work, or community.
Friday night kicked things off with "Reckless, Radical Relationships," and Sabbath rolled through four more topics: Respect, Encouragement, Significance, and Trust. Each one dug into a different piece of what it looks like to reach toward the people around us and let God restore what's broken in those connections.
One moment that's stuck with a lot of us since: Ewart talked about how we respond when someone gives us a compliment. Many of us were raised to deflect and say "give glory to God" — and that's not wrong, exactly. But he pointed out it can slide into a kind of false humility. Sometimes the more gracious response, the one that actually honors both the compliment-giver and God, is simply "thank you."
If you missed it, don't worry — we'll be posting the sermon recordings are here.
